Respiratory Program
At the Norfolk Family Health Team we prioritize our patients who are rostered with the Norfolk Family Health Team and their lung health with our advanced spirometry/ Respiratory program.
Spirometry is a quick, non-invasive test measuring the volume of air you breathe out and the force with which you exhale, using a handheld device attached to a laptop or computer. This test helps diagnose conditions like asthma, COPD, or undiagnosed shortness of breath. Depending on your indivudual situation, we may screen you in advance or, if already on bronchodilators, ask you to withold hold your inhalers for up to 48 hours before the test.
Our trained Certified Respiratory Educators perform the test, and our Nurse Practitioners interpret the results to ensure proper treatment is provided. We then develop personalized action plans tailored to your needs, which may include medical treatments and/or exercise programs such as Caring for My COPD. In certain cases, we refer patients to a Respirologist for further evaluation and provide ongoing annual follow-up to monitor symptom control.
Whether you are managing a chronic condition or exploring new symptoms, we are here to help. Please speak with your Health Care Provider to determine if this test is right for you.
Together, we can breathe easier knowing you are in expert hands.
